Government Medical College & SSG Hospital, Vadodara

Envisaged by the late His Highness Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III as a seat of learning, Medical College Baroda and Shri Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital was founded in the city of Vadodara by the late Maharaja of Baroda, Major General Sir Pratapsingh Gaekwad Jan 1946. Due to the efforts of Dr. Jivraj Mehta, the then Advisor to Government of India and Bombay State on Baroda matters, the ground floor was completed in the year 1949. Dr. M. D. D. Guilder, the Health Minister of Bombay State, inaugurated it on 16 June 1949. The first class was 40 students. For initial development, the institute was entrusted to Late D. A. N. Deodars - the first Dean and Medical Superintendent of S. S. G. Hospital. The first final MBBS examination was held in April 1954. The Medical Council of India and General Medical Council of Britain recognized the degree awarded. The illustrious ruler of Baroda Late Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III initiated medical aid to the public of Baroda by starting a few bedded hospital - Dufferin hospital at Varasia in 1865. That hospital was later expanded to the present S. S. G. Hospital with capacity of 1500 indoor admissions. As Baroda changed its status from lethargic and beautiful “Pensioners Paradise” to “Industrial City” with Gujarat Refinery and Gujarat State Fertilizer Company coming up, the Medical College and S. S. G. Hospital, also changed in terms of student intake, departments addition, increased facilities and the number of beds. Now the medical college houses the Departments of Medicine, Social and Preventive Medicine, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Anatomy, Pathology, Pharmacology, Forensic medicine, Blood bank, Cytogenetic Laboratory and Ayurvedic Research Unit. Encircling the main college buildings there are separate buildings which house postmortem room, the physiotherapy college, Departments of Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedic, Skin & V. D., Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Radiotherapy and Urology.Baroda medical College has completed 60 years in 2009 since its starting in 1949. VMC is the founding partner of the INDO-US Emergency and Trauma Collaborative and has been with the collaboration since its inception in 2005. Spearheaded by Dean Leuva a visionary Leader VMC is at the forefront of building Gujarat’s Emergency and Trauma System. VMC is all set to inaugurate its Department of Emergency Medicine and admit its first batch of MCI Recognized Post Graduate Residents.  The Academicians at VMC are committed to science are active researchers in the International Arena. VMC is Western India’s only NIH Research Award Site and is actively conducting INDO-US research in many arenas of health.

INDU Health Research Foundation, INDIA (IHRF-INDIA)

IHRF-INDIA is a public charitable trust funded by Non-Resident Indians dedicated to developing creative, practical and innovative solutions to reach the benefits of Medicare to the common man at the right time and right place. Set up by NRI'S it is run by experts drawn from various fields of clinical, medicine, business management and public health administration. INDU was formed with the basic intention of providing enough blood for transfusion needs to patients in emergency all across the state of Gujarat.  After years of active survey by professional bodies, INDU has eventually found solutions to the acute shortage of Blood in Gujarat.  INDU has played a decisive role in shaping the emergency supply of blood in cases of trauma and disaster. It has been a active partner to the INDO-US Emergency and Trauma Collaborative and served as its Philanthropic arm supporting various education research and treatment initiatives under the framework of the program.

The world class conference facilities at Vadodara Medical College will be used during INDUS-EM 2010. The venue capacity to host over 2000 industry and medical delegates makes their Conference Center as an ideal location to host a Level One meeting like INDUS-EM 2010. Excellent local and national connectivity is one of the strong points of the venue.
