Workshops at INDUS-EM Summit 2010 at Vadodara

  • The Following Skill Building Workshops will be offered at INDUS-EM 2010 as a package called as Workshop Bundle.
  • Participants can choose one Bundle only.
  • The workshop Timings Do not coincide with competition or CME timings hence Competitors and delegates can register for workshops.
  • If any of the workshops are cancelled the registrant will always have a choice to choose from any of workshop bundles available.
  • Participants have to register for the Summit in order to attend the workshops

Emergency Airway and Ventilation (5 Hours)

This is a five Hour Workshop offered by the VADODARA Airway Laboratory in collaboration with the Airway India Research (AIR) Group.

This Training Program will cover Key aspects of achieving Emergency Airway and Accomplishing successful and stable ventilation in Controlled as well as Challenging Scenarios in Emergency and Trauma Medicine.

Focus will be equally distributed to cover key practical aspects in all age groups from Pediatric to geriatrics.

Sonosite Emergency and Trauma Sonography (5 Hours)

This is a Five Hour Training Program focusing on learning key features in using the Emergency Sonogram Technology in the Emergency Department and a Busy Trauma Center.

Sonography is used in Emergency Care to diagnose Gall Bladder Cardiac, Pulmonary, Abdominal Emergencies, Aortic and Vascular Pathology. This workshop will cover key features to techniques for using the right Probes on the right patients to diagnose the right conditions. A considerable amount of time will be spent on hands on training.

At the end of the course the Participants will have confidence to use the sonogram in the Emergency Department.

Trauma Alert (5 Hours) 

The Course will focus mainly on the Emergency room management of Trauma Victims. It will be a practical oriented course with more emphasis on when and what to do without going into theoretical details of the subject. The participants will have an overview of ED management with essential algorithms in the management of Trauma patients.

Objectives of the Workshop

  1. To educate and train the participants in the Initial assessment and management of Trauma victims after they have arrived in the Emergency Department.
  2. To highlight the fact that effective trauma management in the Emergency Department is of utmost importance and has definite bearing on the Final outcome.
  3. To make the participants realize that Trauma Management in the ED is a Team effort and that it is important for everyone think alike and know their jobs

Disaster Life Support: DLS (5 Hours)

The planned workshop will address the special needs of vulnerable populations, focusing on children and the elderly, during a disaster.  This workshop also offers the unique opportunity to become acquainted with Chemical, Biologic, Radiologic, Nuclear and Explosive Events (CBRNE).  The faculty will prepare the participants on how to create a culture change in hospitals from merely reacting to a event to comprehensive planning for disasters, thus mitigating its effect on the hospital and the community at large. Emphasis will be placed on preparation, mitigation, response and recovery. After a one day introduction, day two will be spent with an actual hands-on table top simulation of a disaster. 

Planned is a track for providers who are new to disaster planning and those who have participated in past workshops.  Participants will be provided with the materials to train and implement the exercise in their own hospitals.  Overall the participant will walk away from this Two (2) Three Hour session being able to develop a Hospital Preparedness Committee, learning all the components and receiving the tool kit for a Disaster Preparedness Plan, completing a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis for their specific facility, receiving materials for training all levels of hospital staff, receiving a tool kit for conducting exercises to practice and evaluating their disaster plans and participating in an actual table top disaster exercise This will be an interactive training appropriate for administrators, physicians, nurses, and medical students.  Workshop members will also receive a certificate of participation on behalf of SUNY Downstate College Of Medicine. 

Emergency Toxicology Life Support (5 Hours)

The Course will focus mainly on the Emergency room management of Toxicology Victims. It will be a practical oriented course with more emphasis on when and what to do without going into theoretical details of the subject. The participants will have an overview of ED management with essential algorithms in the management of Toxicated patients.

Objectives of the Workshop

Basic and Advanced Wound Care (5 Hours)

Wound Care Module

A practical session on cleaning and suturing a laceration Participants will have the opportunity to practice basic suturing, stapling, taping, and tissue gluing techniques. This workshop will provide lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice for the care of wounds in the acute care setting.

Participant will learn:

  • to properly assess and manage a wide range of wounds
  • the use of skin adhesives, taping and staples
  • the best suture material
  • hand ties and instrument ties
  • basic infection information
  • wound management and healing to include skin cleaning preparation.
  • Various suture techniques

This is a hands-on activity-filled session.
